With the ever changing technology, I feel like I sometimes just can't keep up. Once I've mastered twitter I found that I needed to work on my blog. Following my blog I found that I need to work on updating my linkedin. It's a never ending cycle of social media to keep up with for a journalism student. As the end of my college career quickly approaches, I have begun to focus on marketing myself. My two main goals coming up are: creating an online portfolio and mastering interview skills to land the career of my dreams.
Currently I have been searching for a good online tool that allows users to create a free online portfolio. I have had a lot of luck finding sites made for design portfolios, but not one that's a nice mix of writing and design. A few of the sites I have been combing for a advice include:
-Six of the best student portfolio sites: www.journalismandpr.co.uk/2008/12/six-of-the-best-student-portfolio-sites/ --> lists good examples of what a portfolio should look like
-www.blog.spoongraphics.co.uk/articles/10-solutions-to-easily-create-your-online-portfolio
<-- lists free and personal pages to create your own portfolio
As far as tips for interviews go I have been looking to sites such as suite101.com for help which lists suggestions as to what you should prepare before the interview, how you should look/act during the interview, and the proper way to follow up after your interview is over. The main idea that I have gathered is definitely that landing the interview is NOT the hardest part. Once you have landed an interview your work has just begun to seal the deal.
